April: W.E.B. DuBois, head
of the Sociology Department of Atlanta University, convenes the 26th
Atlanta University Conference. He
attempts to bring together Negro Land
Grant Colleges
around the country to develop an ongoing common research program to gather
empirical data on the social and economic condition and status of African
Americans. His plan is dashed when he is
retired by Atlanta University
supposedly because of his age, 76, but possibly because of his militant
integrationist politics and his teaching of socialist ideology.
Grace Towns Hamilton is appointed
the Executive Director of the Atlanta Urban League.
