New Degrees: HR, Archival Studies, Dual MBA-MPH
One benefit of living in the Atlanta region or moving here to attend college is the ever-expanding comprehensive array of academic programs. Some examples of recent new programs:
> Clayton State University in August launches a master's in archival studies, the only degree of its kind in Georgia. The program builds on the long-standing relationship with nearby Georgia Archives and National Archives at Atlanta, the only co-located state and federal archives facilities in the United States.
Emory is developing a degree with a focus in global sustainable development.> Emory University is one of 10 universities worldwide funded by the MacArthur Foundation to create a new master's degree in development practice focusing on global sustainable development.
Kennesaw State campus> Kennesaw State University this fall launches Georgia's first dual Master of Business Administration-Master of Public Administration program.
> Mercer University has added a new undergraduate major in human resources administration and development at its Henry and Douglas County centers. Mercer's Atlanta campus has also added a daytime accelerated MBA program, a first for the campus that has long offered evening MBA classes.
> Southern Polytechnic State University added its 10th new program since 2006, an undergraduate political science degree with a quantitative research focus.

ARCHE Welcomes Georgia Gwinnett College
Georgia Gwinnett campusGeorgia Gwinnett College has joined ARCHE as the Council's 20th member. Georgia's newest state college, GGC earned accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in less than three years. President Daniel J. Kaufman now serves on the ARCHE Board of Trustees. More >


Stephen A. Hayner, President, Columbia Theological SeminaryHayner Now Leads Columbia Seminary
Columbia Theological Seminary has named Stephen A. Hayner the school's ninth president, following a nationwide search. Hayner joined the CTS faculty in 2003 and served as the Peachtree Professor of Evangelism and Church Growth. He succeeds Laura S. Mendenhall and now serves on the ARCHE Board of Trustees.

SpelBots Defy Stereotypes
Spelman robotics team in JapanSpelman College's "SpelBots" robotics team took top honors again at RoboCup Japan. Since 2005, SpelBots have been the only all-female, all-black undergraduate team to qualify for both U.S. and international RoboCup competitions. More >


Coming Soon . . .
"Documented Rights," the National Archives' new traveling exhibit, is at the National Archives at Atlanta (an ARCHE Affiliated Library) through February. The exhibit includes documents related to Brown v Board of Education, Amistad, Koinonia Farms and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Titus Andronicus, Georgia Shakespeare, Oglethorpe UniversityTitus Andronicus, that rarely performed work of Shakespeare, is on stage at Georgia Shakespeare on the campus of Oglethorpe University through August 2.

The exhibit "Mercy, Patience and Destiny: The Women of Whitfield Lovell's Tableaux" is at SCAD-Atlanta through August 23, with a conversation between artists Whitfield Lovell and Carrie Mae Weems on July 30.

Also at SCAD-Atlanta, "Behind the Cels: Selections from SCAD's Don Bluth Collection," offers a look into the college's archival collection from the producer, director and animator who worked on films such as "Sleeping Beauty" and "All Dogs Go to Heaven."

Georgia Tech, the Georgia Research Alliance, Piedmont Healthcare and Saint Joseph's Translational Research Institute collaborated to form the Global Center for Medical Innovation to speed discovery and commercialization of next-generation medical devices. The first of its kind in the Southeast, the center brings the partners together in a complete medical device marketplace with universities, research centers, clinicians, drug and device companies, investors and early-stage companies.
 


Regina Benjamin, the nomine for U.S. Surgeon General, is a trustee and graduate of Morehouse School of Medicine and the second MSM trustee to be appointed to a cabinet position in the Obama administration. Eric Holder, most recently vice chair of MSM's board of trustees, was confirmed as U.S. Attorney General in February. Know more >
