College Campus = Good Neighbor
Sustainable live-learn-work-play development on and near campus emerged as a top priority for Atlanta's growing universities at an Urban Land Institute Atlanta panel yesterday. Presidents and top VPs from Emory, Georgia State, Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State said good relationships with local cities and counties are key. Private enterprise can fill important needs near campus, and university officials encouraged developers to take advantage of opportunities in ways that are consistent with master-plan visions. Other top concerns: maximizing capacity on landlocked campuses; transportation alternatives that move students and employees out of single-occupancy cars; and developing space for companies that grow out of university research.
