Emory Joins Elite Group of Cancer Centers
When Emory Winship Cancer Institute earned the coveted Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute earlier this month, it joined an elite group on the front lines of the war against cancer. Almost all cancer cures, treatments and discoveries come from NCI-designated Cancer Centers. The certification can be a magnet for research talent and means more federal and private research funding in Georgia. For patients, it means that clinical trials and technologies only available to Cancer Centers will be available in Atlanta, fulfilling Robert Woodruff's vision that no one should have to leave Georgia for excellent cancer care. Tech, Emory Develop 5-Minute Autism Screening The Emory Autism Resource Center and the Health Systems Institute at Georgia Tech have collaborated to develop a way to help pediatricians identify children at risk for autism spectrum disorder. The pilot test measures activities such as gesturing, attention level, body language and eye contact, then scans the results to a software program to score them. More >
Mercer, SPSU Add New Specialized Grad Programs Southern Polytechnic State University will offer a master of science in informational and instructional design. The degree will help apply technology to teaching and learning in corporate settings, blending technical communications and instructional technology. More >

Peachtree Counselor Tour About 50 high school counselors from 30 states visited Atlanta recently for the Peachtree Counselor Tour. For 11 years, Atlanta colleges have collaborated to bring a group of counselors to see their campuses and learn about going to college in Atlanta. This year, Agnes Scott, Emory, Oglethorpe, Emory Oxford and Spelman participated.
